Victorian Christmas success

Positive comments from visitors at Rockingham Castle’s sell-out Victorian Christmas event have been flooding in.

Thousands of people enjoyed the unique festive experience which ran over five days from Wednesday 27th November – Sunday 1st December, and included humorous reenactments, candle lit trees, roaring fires and splendid period costume.

Visitors were transported back to Christmas Eve in 1849 during their tours, as the Watson family gathered for their traditional Christmas celebrations.

Rockingham Castle owner, James Saunders Watson, said: “We are thrilled with the response to our Victorian Christmas this year – it once again proved incredibly popular with adults and families who told us how much they loved hearing the delightful stories of Victorian family life. For many it was the first Christmas event of 2019 and definitely got them in the mood for more festivities. Thank you to all our visitors for choosing to celebrate with us.”

Some comments from visitors…

It was the perfect way to absorb some Christmas spirit and treat the family to a magical step back in time.

My eyes were wide and mouth open throughout – I didn’t want the tour to end. We had a lovely time buying gifts in the shop followed by a lovely lunch too. A truly magical experience.
