Event Details

See the English Civil War come back to life, as an Officer of the Garrison visits Rockingham Castle for this one-day re-enactment.

The event takes place during the civil war, when Lord Grey of Groby (who was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the forces of the Parliament in the Midland Counties and Governor of Leicester) was in command.

This is history in action, as Lord Grey sets up an ‘office’ inside the walls of Rockingham Castle, where members of the public are invited to meet him and listen to his tales of the day to day running of a Garrison.

For the real history lovers you can have a go at using an ink and quill. But beware – this may (or may not!) be a trick. You may well be signing up for two years-service in the Army of Parliament.

Visitors will truly step back in time, having the chance to dress up as a soldier, take part in a basic drill in the Castle Courtyard.

This is a one of a kind event and perfect for families, history lovers, students and groups.
