24th August 2008 - 25th August 2008 Vikings! Of Middle England |
 |
The war-like ‘Vikings! Of Middle England' return again to award-winning Rockingham Castle on Bank Holiday Sunday & Monday.
In the beautiful setting of the Castle grounds the ‘invading Vikings' set up camp and play out events from this island's earliest times. The story is set in the years 952-4. The Wessex King, Eadred has expelled the Norse kings of York - Olaf Kvaran and his cousin Ragnald. However, the restless Northumbrians, encouraged by Wulfstan, the Archbishop of York, sought to restore the Viking, Erik Haraldsson - known as Erik Bloodaxe - to the throne that he had lost four years previously. The tail of kings, warriors, warring parties, deceit and revenge is played out over a weekend of high excitement. 12 noon to 5pm Combined event & Castle ticket: Adults £10.50, Senior Citizens £9.50, Children £7 & Family ticket (2+2) £28. Event only: Adults £8.50, Senior Citizens £7.50, Children £5 & Family ticket (2+2) £22. |
