The long running programme to restore the castles collection of 18th century English Fowler muskets is now complete. The muskets have hung for many years in the Castle and were removed for cleaning in 2007. Since then Tony Price, a member of the Castle staff, has been restoring the weapons. Some were in very poor condition and needed major work as can be seen in the picture above. The flint lock working parts had been removed at some time. Jack Truscott at the Royal Armouries Craft Court in Leeds was commissioned to design and fit new parts. The complete set of guns are now on display along with a collection of other military items in the entrance to the Castle.
