This remarkable castle, built on the instruction of William the Conqueror, has been my family’s home for 450 years. Prior to the Watson’s ownership the Castle was held by the crown. There are very few other homes that have been continuously occupied for nearly 1000 years and within that time been owned by just one family since being relinquished as a royal Castle. I think this is a particularly extraordinary aspect of Rockingham’s long and fascinating story. The Castle is now home to my wife, Elizabeth and our children, all of whom enjoy the Castle as I did as a child.
I very much hope that you enjoy looking at our website and that you will visit the Castle soon.

"If you haven't been to Rockingham Castle before you will amazed and impressed. Whether you just wander the grounds or visit the wild garden, or better still have a tour of the historic castle buildings (followed by a cream tea of course!), you will have a great time. It is a real hidden gem."
"I am writing to thank you and all your staff for making our trip to Rockingham so enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour, the meal and the chance to walk around those fabulous gardens. All in all it was a lovely day out."
"I visited here with my mum as a mothers day present, we had such a lovely day. We did the complementary tour of the outside, the lady leading was very informative and friendly. We were also given links to the things inside the castle to look out for that related to things she had said outside. The grounds and house are beautiful and there is so much to see. We had the high tea in the cafe which was delicious especially the coffee and walnut cake! The scones were nice and warm and they were more than happy to accommodate to my mums dietary needs there and then. I would definitely go back as there is so much more to see than we could fit in today and would recommend to everyone."
We wish to congratulate you on making our visit so welcoming. It is very rare in this country to be made so welcome, all the staff made an especial effort to say hello and we particularly wish to thank the gardeners for chatting to us regarding the wonderful roses in the garden and for reminding us of the free tour. The tour was extremely informative and very enjoyable and the cream teas in the tearooms the best I have tasted in years.
